Maybe you're in a record store, browsing the latest import 12-inches from Funki Porcini, Brand New Heavies and Jazzanova. Or maybe you're at the Up & Down Club in San Francisco, where Alphabet Soup is playing downstairs and DJs like Charlotte the Baroness and Romanowski are spinning upstairs.
Fast Women 5/20/07

Ladies first! "Fast Women" is an all uptempo, all-female rap mix. Some female emcees that are heard often are included, like MC Lyte and Queen Latifah, but there are a few seldom heard artists like Silk Tymes Leather (Jermaine Dupri protegees) and L.A. Star (who wasn't from L.A., by the way). It's not meant to be an all-inclusive female rap anthology by any means--it's only 30 minutes long. But an enjoyable 30 minutes, for sure. For the full tracklist of these records, check VERadio.com.

Seein' Kings 4/29/07

Back to an almost all hip-hop mix this week, with some new records and some old. Oldies but goodies include JVC Force's "Big Trax," Yall So Stupid "Van Full of Pakistans" and De La Soul's "Jenifa (Taught Me)." New tracks include "No Kings" from El-P's I'll Sleep When You're Dead album, "Seein' Thangs" featuring David Banner from DJ Shadow's The Outsider. The new Thes One is really good; here you'll hear "Target" from the 10-inch single. Tracey Thorn can do no wrong--"It's All True" takes this week's VE Radio mix out nicely. Please drop a line if you're listening: djbooth@veradio.com, and check the VE Radio site for the complete playlist.
